Lease a car for your Dutch business — become the owner from day one
Financial lease is the most popular form of business car leasing in the Netherlands. You become the economic owner of the vehicle from day one, pay a fixed monthly rate, and own the car outright after the contract ends. Available for ZZP (sole traders), SME and BV companies — including expats and new businesses without long financial history.
Financial lease is the Dutch equivalent of a business car loan combined with a lease structure: you become the economic owner of the vehicle from day one, pay a fixed monthly instalment, and after the final payment — typically after 60 months — the car is fully yours. The vehicle appears on your company balance sheet, there is no mileage limit, and you are free to choose your own insurance and maintenance. The full Dutch explanation is on our financial lease overview page.
Financial lease is available to any business registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK): sole traders (ZZP), private limited companies (BV) and SMEs. Expats running a Dutch business can apply too — a long Dutch financial history is not required, as lenders also assess turnover, sector and payment behaviour. Note that financial lease is strictly a business product: it is not available to private individuals.
The Dutch tax system makes financial lease attractive: interest and depreciation are deductible from your business profit, VAT on a BTW-qualified car can be reclaimed, and the investment may count towards the small-scale investment deduction (KIA). If you also use the car privately, the standard Dutch addition to income ('bijtelling') applies. Your accountant can calculate the exact effect for your situation, or ask us for an example calculation.
With operational lease you rent the use of a car and hand it back at the end of the contract; with financial lease you finance the car itself and end up owning it. That makes financial lease the better fit for entrepreneurs who drive many kilometres, want to build equity in the vehicle, or prefer full control over insurance and maintenance. Yes. If you run a business registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK), you can apply — regardless of nationality. Lenders look at your business figures and payment behaviour rather than your passport.
No. Starters without full annual figures can qualify as well. A KvK registration is the starting point; turnover forecasts and sector are taken into account, and in some cases a down payment strengthens the application.
You are the economic owner from day one: the car is on your balance sheet and you benefit from the tax deductions. Legal ownership transfers to you automatically after the final instalment.
No. Financial lease is a business product for ZZP, SME and BV companies. Private use of a business car is possible, but the Dutch bijtelling rules then apply.
