Business financial lease for entrepreneurs registered in the Netherlands, with English-speaking support
Looking for car lease in the Netherlands for your business? Smartlease arranges business financial lease for entrepreneurs with a Dutch KvK registration, including international entrepreneurs. We help you compare a suitable car, the financing terms and the documents required by the lender. Approval, any down payment and the final rate depend on your application. We do not offer consumer private lease.
Financial lease is business vehicle financing. Monthly payments generally comprise principal and interest. You are usually the economic owner and bear running costs and the risk of changes in vehicle value. Legal ownership and security rights depend on the agreement. Any final balloon payment remains payable under the contract. Read our financial lease overview for the general process. This page focuses on applying as an international entrepreneur in the Netherlands.
Tax treatment depends on the vehicle, your business and its use. Purchase VAT may be deductible for VAT-taxable business activities where VAT is separately charged; a margin-scheme car has no separately deductible purchase VAT. Private use may require a VAT adjustment. Interest and depreciation can be business expenses, but principal repayments are not. Depreciation takes expected useful life and residual value into account. Ordinary passenger cars not intended for professional transport are excluded from KIA. Do not assume every van qualifies or that one fixed deduction percentage applies to all investments. Have a Dutch accountant check your position before signing.
If you drive the business car more than 500 km per year for private purposes, Dutch tax law adds a percentage of the car's list price (catalogue value) to your taxable income. In 2026 this is 22% for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars. Fully electric cars registered in 2026 get 18% on the first €30,000 of the list price and 22% above that; this rate stays fixed for 60 months from first registration, so a used EV keeps the (often lower) rate of its registration year. Example: a €40,000 petrol car adds €8,800 per year to your income; a €40,000 EV registered in 2026 adds €7,600. Keep a mileage log (rittenregistratie) if you want to prove private use stays under 500 km. Use our lease calculator for the monthly payment and ask us for an indication of the net cost including bijtelling.
Start with a Dutch KvK registration and the details of the car and business. Depending on the lender and application, requested documents may include proof of identity, residence information, business bank statements and financial or income records. Requirements for bank accounts, residence status and a recently started business differ by lender. A KvK registration permits an application; it does not guarantee approval. We confirm the requirements for your case before asking for documents.
Smartlease is a business financial-lease broker. We help with the application in English, compare the relevant financing options and explain the documents, monthly payments and any balloon payment. The lender makes the credit decision. Delivery depends on approval, completed documents and the vehicle supplier. Request an individual timetable rather than relying on a fixed approval or delivery promise.
Compare the current vehicle selection or ask about a specific car you have found. Availability and prices can change. Compare purchase price, VAT status, down payment, loan amount, rate, term, balloon payment and total payments. Insurance, maintenance, tyres, energy and road tax are normally separate from the financing instalment. Use the calculator for an indication and request a business quote for the vehicle and your circumstances.
Have your KvK number, preferred car, purchase price, expected business use and available down payment ready. Ask whether VAT must be paid upfront, what remains due at the end and what early settlement costs. For the distinction between business and private use, see our tax-choice guide. Your accountant checks the tax outcome; the lender confirms financing conditions.
Not on a personal basis. Financial lease is a business financing product and requires a KvK registration in your own name or your company's name. If you are employed, your employer can lease the car for you, or you can look at private lease, which Smartlease does not offer.
International entrepreneurs with a Dutch KvK registration can apply. The lender assesses identity, residence information, business finances and the car. Eligibility and approval depend on the individual application.
Not with Smartlease. We handle all Dutch-language correspondence with the leasing companies on your behalf and communicate with you in English throughout the entire process.
Timing depends on the lender, completeness of your documents and vehicle availability. We explain the expected next steps for your application; approval and delivery dates are not guaranteed.
A recently started business can apply. The lender may ask for bank statements, business information, a down payment or other supporting evidence. Acceptance is assessed individually.
Typically: KvK extract (Chamber of Commerce registration), recent bank statements (3-6 months), income documentation (tax return, profit and loss statement, or salary slips), and a copy of your passport or residence permit. Smartlease will tell you exactly which documents are needed for your specific situation.
Most financial lease contracts run 36 to 72 months. Shorter periods are sometimes possible but tend to have higher monthly costs. At Smartlease, we help you find the optimal lease duration based on your budget and driving needs.
